I Don’t Want To Be The Only Light

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven.”

— Matthew 5:16

Most people want to be known and remembered for something special.

As for me, I want to be remembered as someone who brought light into dark places, hope into weary hearts, and encouragement to those who needed it most.

I want to be remembered because someone’s life became brighter after we crossed paths.

For a long time, I wrestled with a question:

“How do I impact the world?”

Another question soon followed:

“Of what use will I be if I do not live my purpose?”

I was not searching for fame.

I was not searching for applause.

I simply wanted my life to matter.

I wanted to know that when I leave a room, a workplace, a friendship, a conversation, or even this world, something would be better because I was there.

The answer did not come through grand gestures.

It came through simple acts:

  • Giving a listening ear.
  • Offering a helping hand.
  • Encouraging those who needed it.
  • Showing up when it mattered.
  • Extending kindness without barriers.
  • Giving without always expecting something in return.
  • Offering hope, especially to those who had almost lost theirs.

That was when I realised that changing the world does not always begin with reaching millions of people.

It often begins with reaching one.

One conversation.

One act of kindness.

One encouraging word.

One person at a time.

If I could leave one mark on the world, it would be this:

  • To be a reason someone believes in themselves again.
  • To be a reason someone feels loved.
  • To be a reason someone feels seen.
  • To be a reason someone feels heard.
  • To be a reason someone discovers that God still answers prayers.
  • To be a reason someone finds the courage to take one more step forward.

I have always desired more love, more peace, more joy, more grace, more kindness, and more goodness in the world.

Then one day, a simple realisation changed my perspective:

If I wanted more of these things in the world, I had to become a source of them.

I could not keep asking for more light while refusing to shine.

I could not keep hoping for more kindness while withholding kindness from others.

I could not keep expecting the world to change if I was unwilling to play my part in changing it.

So I made a choice.

I chose to become intentional.

Intentional with my words.

Intentional with my relationships.

Intentional with my kindness.

Intentional with my service.

Intentional with the way I treat every person whose path crosses mine.

I made a commitment that if someone came to me carrying a burden, I would do my best not to leave them heavier than I found them.

If someone needed encouragement, I would offer it.

If someone needed a listening ear, I would listen.

If someone needed hope, I would remind them that hope still exists.

Because light spreads.

Hope spreads.

Kindness spreads.

One person shines, another finds their way, and then becomes a light for someone else.

That is why I say this:

I do not want to be the last hope.

I want to be the hope that reminds you there is still hope ahead.

I do not want to be the only light.

I want to be the light that points you toward an even brighter path.

The world changes when ordinary people choose to become sources of light.

Not the only light.

Just enough light to help someone find their next step.

And if enough of us choose to live this way, perhaps we will leave this world a little better than we found it.

In my own corner of the world, I want to make a difference and be the difference.

I choose to be a light.

That is why I write.

That is why I serve.

That is why I uplift.

Because every life matters.
