There was a time when I was convinced I had made one of the biggest mistakes of my life.
I had a fashion business that was doing fairly well, but I wanted to take it to the next level. I didn’t just want to sell clothes. I wanted to build a brand people would recognise, trust, and love.
So I made a decision.
I was going to take my business to the next level.
When I shared my vision with people around me, almost everyone had the same reaction.
“This is a big move.”
“You’re thinking like a billionaire.”
Their confidence fuelled my excitement. I truly believed this would be the breakthrough I had been waiting for.
With the support of my husband, I invested almost everything I had. We bought beautiful, high-quality fabrics, and I created ready-to-wear outfits I was genuinely proud of.
When everything was ready, I launched them with so much hope.
Then I waited.
And waited.
Nothing.
I convinced myself people probably hadn’t seen the designs, so I created more.
Still nothing.
I released even more.
Again, nothing.
At some point, it felt as though my business had become a forest of crickets.
Apart from two wonderful friends and family members who supported me, there was hardly any response.
I was heartbroken.
I questioned my decisions.
I questioned my ability.
I wondered whether I had invested all that money only to fail.
Eventually, I packed up the remaining outfits and gave them to my mum.
At least, I got plenty of motherly blessings.
For a while, the disappointment stole my motivation. The excitement that had once kept me awake at night disappeared.
I wanted to stop trying.
But then something happened.
I remembered who I was.
I’m known for encouraging people.
I remind others not to give up when life becomes difficult.
I inspire people to keep believing when the odds are against them.
Then one question came to my mind:
“If you can encourage everyone else, why can’t you encourage yourself?”
That question changed everything.
Instead of giving up, I decided to try something different.
I started wearing my own designs.
People noticed.
They complimented them.
They asked where I got them.
Conversations became enquiries.
Enquiries became orders.
Before long, every fabric I had invested in had been sold.
The same investment I had once labelled a failure became one of my greatest financial victories.
Looking back today, I realise my dream wasn’t the problem.
My approach simply needed to change.
That experience taught me lessons I’ll never forget.
Failure isn’t always a sign that you should quit.
Rejection doesn’t mean you’re incapable.
Disappointment doesn’t erase your potential.
Sometimes, success is waiting for a different strategy, greater patience, or the courage to keep showing up when nothing seems to be working.
Most importantly, I learned that the person who sometimes needs my encouragement the most is me.
If you’re reading this and life hasn’t gone the way you hoped, I want you to know something.
Your story is not over.
Encourage yourself.
Speak to yourself with the same kindness you freely give to others.
And if that’s difficult, don’t carry the weight alone.
Lean on people you trust.
Allow someone to remind you of your strength until you can see it again.
That’s one of the reasons The Uplifter exists.

Rejection isn’t your destination.
And disappointment doesn’t have the final word.
Sometimes, the breakthrough you’re praying for isn’t on the other side of giving up.
It’s on the other side of trying again—differently.
